Dear parents,
Have you heard? Artondale Otters are so excited about Plastic Free Lunch Day on November 18th. If your child orders a school lunch that day, it will be served on reusable trays and plates, and they will use metal utensils instead of plastic.
The goal of this event is to raise awareness about the overuse of single-use plastics and to show students more sustainable options. Using reusables instead of throwaways reduces waste and is better for the environment.
On plastic free lunch day, please consider packing your child a waste-free lunch in reusable containers. You can send sandwiches in beeswax wrap or bento boxes, snacks in fabric pouches or stainless steel containers, and drinks in thermoses or reusable bottles. This will help us greatly reduce lunchtime trash that day. Here is a quick visual to help if you are planning on making your student's lunch that day:
If you choose to have your child order school lunch, rest assured their meal will be served on reusable dishes that will be washed after use. Please remind them to return their tray, plates and utensils after eating so they can be cleaned for reuse.
Reducing single-use plastics is an important issue, and this lunch day will help educate students on changes they can make to be more environmentally conscious. Thank you for your support as we work to make our school more sustainable. Please let me know if you have any questions!
Sincerely,
Ms. VK
