Welcome to the PSD Playbook!

Your weekly update celebrating the incredible athletes, coaches, and teams across Peninsula School District. Each week, we’ll highlight standout performances, share coach insights, showcase sportsmanship, and keep you in the loop on upcoming games and events. Think of it as your inside look at all the energy, effort, and PSD pride happening on and off the field.

Making Waves: Girls Swim & Dive in the Spotlight 🌊✨

The GHHS and PHS girls swim & dive teams faced off in the annual “Sharkbowl” on Thursday, a rivalry meet that’s friendly, fun, and fiercely competitive. From powerful strokes to perfect dives, these athletes gave it their all, showing off teamwork, determination, and school pride. Whether it was shaving seconds off a lap or cheering each other from the deck after hitting PR's, these swimmers and divers made a splash—and reminded us why PSD athletics are making waves this season!

Spotlight on Leadership: Ava, GHHS Swim & Dive and SALC Member

Ava, a member of the GHHS Swim & Dive team and our Student-Athlete Leadership Council (SALC), shares a glimpse into life as a swimmer:

"Being a Gig Harbor swimmer means smelling like chlorine, having girls like family, and most of all, hard work. Every day after school, we go straight into our "dryland" exercises (although we all hope to sit and watch film) where we spend about an hour together suffering and getting stronger. And then, we get in the pool until 5, sometimes until 4:45 so we can spend some time working on our capital city trivia. It is exhausting work but our team is a strong community of funny, kind people who make every practice a lot easier. Swim meets, though, are where the real magic happens. It's two and a half hours where all the effort we put into our strokes, pacing, and team spirit come together. So far, our team has put out a strong showing, and we hope to go on to reclaim our League and District titles! Roll Tide!"

Join Us in Thanking Our Coaches!

National Coaches Day is coming up on October 6, and honestly, where would we be without them?

Coaches are the ones navigating late buses, juggling packed practice schedules, and still showing up ready to pour into our athletes. They teach resilience, accountability, and sometimes the fine art of running one more rep when you’re positive you can’t.

Think back—was there a coach who believed in you before you believed in yourself? Someone who made the game fun, or reminded you that it’s about more than the scoreboard? Those stories matter. We want to hear your “thank you coach” stories. Big or small, send them to athletics@psd401.net and we might feature them in next week’s Playbook. Let’s give our coaches the love they deserve.
